M.C., B.A., LL.B. : Lieutenant, 17th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in August, 1915, and sailing to Egypt 8th March, 1916, as second-lieutenant 10th Reinforcements, joined battn. at Pozieres 12th July, and was wounded on 28th. On recovery served with battn. until severely wounded at Lagnicourt 15th April, 1917, and evacuated to England and thence to Australia, arriving in January, 1918. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. *  He went forward under heavy fire (at Lagnicourt), and took charge of an advanced post at a critical time. Later, although his leg was broken, he remained in command of his men and succeeded in driving the enemy back.
