M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., England and France. Enlisting in August, 1917, and sailing as M.O., troopship  Beltana  in January, 1918, served as M.O., Engineers Depot, Brightlingsea. Joining 15th Australian Field Ambulance at Querrieux in July, worked there as stretcher-bearer captain, evacuating wounded from 57th-6oth Battns., from Villers-Bretonneux to the Hindenburg Line and was then R.M.O. 53rd Battn. till the Armistice, returning for demobilisation. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
