B.V.Sc. : Lieutenant, 56th Battn., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting in August, 1914, was discharged as under age. Reenlisting in March, 1915, was on instructional staff in camps. Commissioned in A.I.F., 1st February, 1916, sailed in April as lieutenant in charge of battn. reinforcements and, crossing from Egypt, was appointed Intelligence Officer 14th Brigade in July, serving at Fromelles and on the Somme, where wounded at Flers in November. On recovery rejoined battn. but was again seriously wounded at Le Transloy in February, 1917, and on joining unit was reported unfit. After acting as staff instructor in musketry from April to May at Salisbury, and O.C. Details, Le Havre, during June and July, returned to Australia in October. A.M.F. : Member of Coronation Contingent, 1911. Commission in 26th Infantry, 1915. President, Undergraduates' Association. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later one year in Medicine.
