B.E., A.M.I.E.Aust., Med. VI : Lieutenant, 2nd Squadron, A.F.C., and 17th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Enlisting in February, 1915, and sailing 12th May with original 17th Battn., landed at Gallipoli in July and was attached to Royal Naval Service at Imbros from August, 1915, to February, 1916, when returned to battn. in Egypt. Crossing with it to France in April, served at Bois Grenier, Somme I, Ypres and Somme II, being sent to England for flying training 2nd December and commissioned in May, 1917. Joined 32nd Squadron R.F.C. in France in July but returned to 2nd A.F.C. in England in August, taking an advance party of that squadron to France in September. Flew at Battles of Cambrai and Passchendaele but returned to England in February, 1918, remaining there flying till demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant, 14th August, 1917. Early education at Barker College. Later one year in Arts.
