Arts and Eng : Lieutenant-Colonel, 4th Pioneer Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt, England and France. Enlisting in October, 1914, and sailing in November as lieutenant 7th A.L.H. Regt., was promoted major 16th December to command B Squadron in Egypt. Accompanying regt. to Gallipoli, remained with it until invalided to Malta in October, 1915. Returning to Egypt unfit for Active Service about March, 1916, carried out Base duties at Tel-el-Kebir till sent to Tidworth in May as Acting Commander 2nd Training Battn. After various Base duties, was O.C. Pioneer Training Battn. until posted to 2nd Pioneers in France in October, 1917. Appointed temporarily to command 4th Pioneers as lieutenantcolonel 22nd April, 1918, with confirmation in July, returning on  1914 Leave  as O.C. troopship  Port Lyttleton  24th December. Mentioned in Despatches twice. Early education at King's College, Goulburn. Later at St. Paul's.
