Diploma in Military Science : Major, 1st and 45th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. After long service in A.M.F. was mobilised on the outbreak of War for duty at defended ports and camps. Enlisting 16th February, 1915, and arriving at Gallipoli 18th June, was appointed temporarily to command 1st Battn. 3rd September, serving until the Evacuation. Transferring to 45th in Egypt and crossing with it to France, fought at Fleurbaix and the Somme until 25th August, 1916. Then seconded as O.C. 12th Training Battn. in England and on its disbandment was appointed second in command, 4th Command Depot, Hurdcott, until 3rd October, 1918, when returned to Australia. Early education at Inverell Superior Public School.
