M.C., M .B .: Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, France and England. Enlisting in October, 1915, and sailing 19th December, joined No. 2 Australian General Hospital, Ghezireh, and became R.M.O. 15th Field Artillery Brigade 29th February, 1916. Crossing to France in June, was subsequently attached to 14th Bde. being with it till August, 1918, at Fromelles, Somme, Ypres and elsewhere. Was then at No. 3 A.G.H., Abbeville, until the Armistice and later M.O., Australian Flying Squadron, Tetbury, where promoted major, returning in January, 1920. Awarded M.C.* for work at Ypres and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School and St. Ignatius' College. Later at St. Andrew's. * On hearing while with another battery that two batteries 500 yards away were being heavily shelled with gas, shrapnel and high explosive shells, and many casualties were occurring, he at once went there, and in spite of the intensity of the shelling, remained for an hour and a half attending to the wounded.
