M.C., M.B. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st March, 1916, and sailing on hospital ship Karoola in May after service at No. 4 Australian General Hospital, Randwick, joined No. 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 3rd September and 8th Australian Field Ambulance on 14th, becoming R.M.O. 30th Battn. and remaining with it until demobilisation, though slightly gassed in April, 1918. Awarded M.C.* for work at Polygon Wood, 30th September, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Fort St. High School. * During a very heavy barrage and an enemy counter attack he attended to the wounded in the open with complete disregard to his personal safety. His courage and coolness in carrying on his work under such conditions resulted in the saving of many lives.
