M.C., M.E., M.I.E.Aust. : Lieutenant, 3rd and 1st Field Coys., Engineers, A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 1st September, 1915, and sailing 9th November as sergeant m charge n th Reinforcements 1st Field Coy., joined coy. in Egypt 28th December. Reverting to sapper, was appointed lancecorporal 2nd April, 1916, in France and in July sent to Officers Training School, Llandudno, being commissioned 20th October. Returning to France 8th December, served with 3rd Coy. till 5th October, 1917, when evacuated, twice wounded, from Westhoek, Passchendaele. During convalescence was Assistant Adjutant in charge of Engineers Training Depot, Brightlingsea, till April, 1918, when returned to coy., remaining there in charge of all survey work and coy. equipment until demobilisation. Awarded M.C.* at Hermies. City Engineer, Newcastle. Early education at New Brighton (England), Subiaco (W.A.), Wentworthwille and Hurstville Public and Sydney High Schools. *  Accompanied by one man, he succeeded in capturing a party of six of the enemy. Later, he constructed a strong point under the most difficult conditions.
