D.Sc. : Trooper, 2nd Signal Troop and 6th A.L.H. Regt., A.I.F., Egypt and Palestine. Enlisting 28th August, 1915, and sailing 5th January, 1916, with 2nd Signal Troops reinforcements, joined unit at Maadi, near Cairo, remaining with it during the advance across Sinai when transferred to brother's regiment (6th A.L.H.) as signaller. Wounded 27th March, 1918, in Amman attack and evacuated to hospital at Port Said and invalided to Australia, arriving in July. Barker No. 1, Barker Graduate, and Travelling Scholar. Early education at West Maitland Public and Maitland High Schools.
