M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, Gallipoli and Palestine. Enlisting in May, 1915, and sailing 16th June, served as Ambulance Transport Officer, No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, from 16th July and joining 3rd A.L.H. Field Ambulance 1st October, was R.M.O. 16th Battn. at Anzac until the Evacuation. Was with 1st A.L.H.F.Amb. from 13th January, 1916, against Senussi and, going in May to Sinai Desert, became R.M.O. 3rd A.L.H. Regt. in Battle of Romani. Rejoining 1st Ambulance 28th August, was with it at Rafa and 2nd Gaza and with 4th from 23rd April, 1917, at Beersheba, Jerusalem, Damascus, Homs and until demobilisation. Promoted major, July, 1917; lieutenant-colonel, 24th February, 1919. Awarded M.C. 1st January, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Petersham Public and Sydney High Schools.
