M.C., C. de G., Law : Major, 4th Bde., A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st August, 1915, and sailing 18th November with 5th Brigade, was posted to 14th Battery as second-lieutenant and served with it until August, 1917. Then was posted to 4th Bde. as adjutant for four months, when promoted captain and appointed staff captain, 2nd Division Artillery. In October, 1918, was promoted major to command 10th Battery, remaining with it until demobilisation. Wounded at Malt Trench, Grevillers, in 1917 but remained on duty. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. *  He displayed great courage and determination in maintaining communication under very heavy fire, thereby sending in valuable information at a critical time. Later, he carried out a dangerous reconnaissance.
