Enlisting 30th March, 1915, and sailing 25th June with 5th Australian Field Ambulance, served at Gallipoli from August until invalided to Egypt 28th November. Crossing to France in March, 1916, was again invalided to hospital 19th April and to England 28th August. Attached to Pay Corps 11th May, 1917, being granted an Overseas Scholarship to Balliol College in October and obtaining B.A. degree in June, 1918. Owing to ill-health attended the University of Montpelier during winter, 1918-19, returning to England in May, but was again invalided to hospital on 23rd and returned to Australia in October. Died of Illness due to War Service, No. 17 Australian General Hospital, Brisbane, 20th April, 1920.  . . . His is an interesting case : if he can shake off the tendency to delicate health he will make a mark in Australian public life and be of value to the Commonwealth.
