Enlisting 25th April, 1916, in 5th Reinforcements n th Artillery Brigade, served with 7th from 23rd November on the Somme and in Third Battle of Ypres, being discharged in United Kingdom, 4th December, 1917, to complete medical studies and later returning to Australia. Promoted acting bombardier, 12th September, 1917, and was temporary bombardier 4th~3ist October.
