Econ. I : Gunner, 12th Battery, A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in September, 1915, served as musketry instructor, acting staff-sergeant-major, 1915-16. Re-enlisting in January, 1917, and sailing in August, served near Ypres and Messines Ridge until evacuated to England through injury from Le Petit Mortier in January, 1918. Rejoining battery in October, was gassed at Busigny, but served from Estrees to Escaufourt and until invalided from Thuin, Charleroi, to Hospital in January, 1919, being discharged in January, 1921, after 16 months in Randwick Hospital. Early education at Plunkett St. Public and Fort St. High Schools. Later at Teachers' College.
