O.B.E., Med. I I : Lieutenant-Colonel, 14th, 25th Howitzer and 13th Bdes., A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st July, 1915, and sailing 10th August as secondlieutenant with 7th Reinforcements 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, joined 1st Divisional Ammunition Column in Egypt 23rd February, 1916, and crossed with it to France. Transferring to 25th Howitzer Bde. 1st April and to 14th F.A.B. 9th July, remained with it till 13th February, 1918, when transferred to 13th. Returned to 14th Bde. as Adjutant 1st May and later was appointed Brigade-Major, 5th Div. Artillery, serving' until demobilisation. Fought at the Somme, Hindenburg Line, Ypres, Villers-Bretonneux and elsewhere. Promoted lieutenant, 8th December, 1915; captain, 1st September, 19 17; major, 3rd July, 1918. Mentioned in Despatches.
