A.M.I.E.Aust., Eng. I : Lieutenant, 13th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 14th September, 1915, passed N.C.O. and Officers Schools and, sailing 4th September, 1916, as acting sergeant 4th Reinforcements 55th Battn., contracted illness at sea 10th October. Transferring to 13th Battn. as private, 4th June, 1917, fought at Messines and Polygon Wood, where promoted lance-corporal, and on the Somme, where commissioned  On the Field  4th June, 1918, serving until demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant, 17th October, 1918. Member of S.U. Scouts Rifle Team. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
