M.C., Arts and Med. : Captain, 13th Battn., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 30th June, 1915, and sailing in March, 1916, with reinforcements, joined battn. in Egypt and, crossing with it to France, served at Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Ypres, Somme, Polygon Wood, Messines, Hebuterne, Villers-Bretonneux and elsewhere until demobilisation, being attached to 4th Training Battn. in England 13th January to 12th July, 1917. Promoted second-lieutenant, 1st December, 1915; lieutenant, 19th August, 1916; captain, 16th August, 1917. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at St. Ignatius' College. *  When our troops were being subjected to sniping, he pushed his company forward, brushing aside all opposition and established a line well ahead. He also commanded a successful night raid, capturing ten prisoners and inflicting many casualties.
