M.M., M.B., Ch.M. : Sergeant, 56th Battn. and A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, France and England. Enlisting 31st July, 1915, and sailing 22nd December with No. 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, was nine months in Egypt and then, crossing to England, transferred to Infantry at Bulford. Served with 56th Battn. from 30th December, 1916, till 30th September, 1918, on the Somme as corporal and at Polygon Wood as sergeant. Then was at a training battn. in England and on non-military employment for five months till demobilisation with 56th Battn. Early education at a Victorian State School.
