Med. I : Lieutenant, Royal West Kents (The Queen's Own), B.E.F., France; also A.A.M.C., A.I.F. Enlisting 19th June, 1915, and sailing as W.O. on hospital ship  Karoola  , returned 4th December. Discharged to British Army 20th May, 1916, gazetted second-lieutenant 25th January, 1917, and posted to 3rd Battn., West Kents. Although wounded in April, 1917, rejoined regiment on recovery and served until demobilisation. Early education at Craigend School.
