D.S.O., V.D., B.A. (Oxon.), Arts : Lieutenant-Colonel, 19th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt, England and France. Enlisting 27th April, 1915, and sailing 25th June, was C.O. troopship Ceramic and 19th Battn. in Gallipoli from 20th August to the Evacuation. Then served at Suez Canal and, crossing to France, at Armentieres, Pozieres, Ypres and Flers till invalided to England 15th March, 1917. Was there C.O. 61st Battn. from 23rd March till its dispersion 3rd November, being acting C.O. 16th Brigade from September. Returning to France, was C.O. 2nd Divisional Base Depot, Havre, from 16th November to 15th December and then formed Australian Infantry Base Depot, commanding it till 21st June, 1918. Attached to 23rd Battn. from 23rd July to 21st December during the Great Advance from Villers-Bretonneux through Peronne and Mont St. Quentin to Hindenburg Line, returning as C.O. troopship Orca , for demobilisation. Awarded D.S.O. 1st January, 1918, and Russian Imperial Order of St. Stanislaus (3rd Class with swords), and Mentioned in Despatches thrice. N.S.W. Scottish Rifles and 25th Battn., A.M.F.,16 1/2 years. Colonel (Hon.), Retired List, 27th February, 1928. Early education at St. Mark’s (Darling Point) Preparatory and Sydney Grammar Schools. Later at St. Paul’s College ; St. John’s (Oxon.) and Inns of Court, London.
