M.B., Ch.M. : Company Sergeant-Major, 3rd Battn. and 1st Battn. Imperial Camel Corps, A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine. Enlisting 24th August, 1914, and sailing with 3rd Battn. 19th October, was with it at Gallipoli, being wounded 19th May and again on 7th August when evacuated to hospital but, rejoining battn. 30th October, served till the Evacuation. Transferring to Camel Corps 6th February, 1916, fought with it in the Senussi Campaign and subsequently at Battles of Gaza I and II, till invalided to hospital 18th February, 1917. Rejoining corps on 23rd February, returned to Australia in September owing to death and sickness in family. Promoted lance-corporal, February, 1915, corporal in April, and sergeant, 3rd November; company sergeant-major, June, 1916. A.M.F. : O.C., C Squadron, 15th A.L.H. Regt., 1937.
