Econ. : Major, 4th and 36th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli, England and France. Enlisting 17th August, 1914, was commissioned lieutenant on 28th and, sailing 19th October, served at the Gallipoli Landing, through Lone Pine, where Mentioned in Despatches, and till 18th August, 1915, when invalided to hospital at Port Said and thence to Australia. Posted to 36th Battn. in Australia in March, 1916, served with it and 3rd Division H.Q. in England till February, 1917, and, transferring to 4th Battn., joined it in France in April and fought at Demicourt, Bullecourt, Zonnebeke, Passchendaele, Strazeele, Hazebrouck and Amiens. Commanded 1st Training Battn. in England from October to December, 1918, and Training Brigade Concentration Depot from January to June, 1919, later returning for demobilisation. Early education at The King's School.
