M.B., Ch.M. : Lieutenant, 13th Battn., and A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 30th August, 1914, and sailing 19th December as sergeant 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, served at the Anzac Landing, on Lemnos from 31st May, 1915, to 17th January, 1916, and at Tel-el- Kebir till 28th May, then returning to Australia with wounded. Re-embarking 9th August, proceeded in October to the Somme and served with Ambulance till May, 1917, when sent to 5th Officers Cadet Battn., Trinity College, Cambridge, whence commissioned 4th August, 1917, to 13th Battn. Fought at Messines, Passchendaele, Hebuterne, Villers-Bretonneux and Hamel, being wounded at Vaire Wood 20th June, 1918, evacuated to Rouen and Wandsworth Hospitals and thence to Australia, arriving 23rd December and demobilised medically unfit 1st April, 1919. A.M.F. : Lieutenant-Colonel, O.C., S.U. Regt., 1929-33. Early education at Scotch College, Claremont, W.A.
