M.C., Pharmacy: Lieutenant, 1st Battn. and A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 24th August, 1914, and sailing 20th October with 1st Australian Field Ambulance, was at the Anzac Landing and wounded 13th May. Transferring to 1st Battn. as second-lieutenant 16th August, 1916, served at Pozieres, Ypres and the Somme till wounded at Flers 30th October. On recovery rejoined battn. and fought at Ypres III, Messines and Hazebrouck till wounded a third time at Pradelles 12th July, 1918. Promoted lieutenant, 19th December, 1916. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Drowned, Irish Sea, 10th October, 1918, on transport Leinster . Early education at Christian Brothers' School, Toowoomba, and St. Stanislaus' College, Bathurst. * With a small patrol of four other ranks he surprised and captured various enemy posts, capturing twenty-eight prisoners and four guns. He then reported the situation to his company commander, and, during the main operation that followed, he rendered assistance in co-operation, by making a further advance, capturing seven prisoners and a machine-gun.
