M.C. and Bar, B.A. : Captain, 4th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France, Persia and Russia. Enlisting as second-lieutenant in August, 1914, and sailing 11th February, 1915, served at Gallipoli till the Evacuation and in France from March, 1916, to January, 1918, being wounded at Fleurbaix 7th May, 1916, and at Doignes 15th April, 1917. On recovery joined Dunsterforce, proceeded in January, 1918, through Persia to Baku and there commanded 2nd Regiment — 1st, 2nd and 5th Infantry and 1st Rifle Battns.—of Bicherakov’s Russo-Armenian Group.
Upon disbanding proceeded to Vladivostok as Instructor to one of Koltchak’s Officers Schools, returning to Australia 16th April, 1919.
Awarded M.C.* 12th December, 1917, and Bar 17th August, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches.Early education at The King’s School.
