M.M., Diploma in Economics and Commerce : Lieutenant, 15th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 15th July, 1915, and sailing 23rd December with 7th Reinforcements 20th Battn. after training as signaller, joined 56th on formation, 16th February, 1916, and transferred to 15th on 20th May, serving until demobilisation. Took part in famous 14th Brigade Desert March from Tel-el-Kebir to Ferry Post, Suez Canal. Crossing to France in June, fought in all battn. engagements, including Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Bullecourt, Polygon Wood, Hebuterne, Hamel, the August Advance of 1918. Promoted second-lieutenant  On the Field, 13th September, 1918. Awarded M.M. for work at Hamel as corporal in charge of signallers. Early education at Hamilton and Cook's Hill Superior Public Schools.
