M.A. : Lieutenant, attached R.E., Egypt. Sailing privately from London, was granted special commission as second-lieutenant at Cairo, attached to R.E. and served from April, 1916, in Sinai Peninsula till invalided seven months later. After convalescence was retained by Egyptian Government on special duty during 1917-18. Returning to England after a total service of two years, volunteered again but, services not being accepted, resumed studies at Oxford. Lecturer in French Language and Literature, King's College, London University. Early education : Private.
