M.C. and Bar, M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, 4th Battn. Yorkshire Regiment, B.E.F., France. Enlisting in London, was commissioned to Yorkshire Regt. 13th August, 1915, and, crossing to France 24th May, 1916, served on the Somme till wounded 11th November. In 1917 fought at Arras and Ypres III till again wounded 28th October and evacuated to England. After six months'' rest, rejoined battn. and was in the final battles of October and November, 1918, returning to Australia 12th December, 1919. Promoted lieutenant, 1st June, 1916; captain, n th October, 1917. Awarded M.C. 1st January, 1918, and Bar, 2nd April, 1919. Early education at Bedford Grammar School, England.
