M.B. : Lieutenant, 56th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 21st January, 1916, and sailing 25th October, joined battn. in France, 23rd March, 1917, and fought at Louveral, Bullecourt and Ypres, where gassed 23rd September. Rejoining unit 20th December, served at Morlancourt near Hamel, Amiens and Bellicourt, where again wounded 30th September, 1918, and evcauated to hospital in U.K. and thence to Australia, arriving 9th March, 1919. Promoted second-lieutenant, 1st May, 1916; lieutenant, 28th May, 1917. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
