Eng. I l l : Lieutenant, 53rd and 113th Batteries, A.F.A. and 1st Field Coy., Engineers, A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 21st August, 1914, and sailing 18th October with 1st Field Coy. Engineers, served at the Anzac Landing, being twice invalided from Gallipoli, the second time to London. Rejoining coy. in France four months later, was severely gassed, but remained with it till 24th May, 1918, when transferred to 14th Brigade as secondlieutenant, returning on "1914 Leave "as passenger via U.S.A. 24th December. Promoted lieutenant, 4th September, 1918. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew''s College.
