Enlisting 5th August, 1914, after service as lieutenant, Intelligence Corps, and sailing in December with 1st Division Ammunition Park to Egypt, crossed with it to France 15th July, 1915. On 30th January, 1917, transferred to command K Ammunition Park and on 13th March, 1918, to Australian Corps Mechanical Transport Column. Appointed O.C., A.M.T. Services in United Kingdom 14th January, 1919. Promoted captain, 13th September, 19 14; major, 1st August, 1915. Awarded D.S.O. 3rd June, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches four times.E arly education at Sydney Grammar School.
