M.S.M., Pharmacy: Warrant-Officer, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. After registering for motor service in England resigned and, Enlisting 17th December, 1914, sailed 11th February, 1915, with 2nd Reinforcements, 1st Australian Field Ambulance. Served at the Anzac Landing with Ambulance, later on ship duty, as stretcher bearer to Ghurkas at Cape Helles, and also temporarily as dispenser to No. 1 Australian Stationary Hospital. After the Evacuation was invalided to hospital, and on recovery, transferred to 14th A.F.Amb. on formation of 5th Division, crossing with it to France in June and serving at Fleurbaix, Somme, Hindenburg Line, Bullecourt, Ypres, Messines, Villers-Bretonneux and elsewhere until demobilisation. Promoted corporal, 31st May, 1916, and sergeant, 23rd July; quartermaster- sergeant (W.O. II), 6th October, 1918. Early education at Newington College.
