Arts and Law : Captain, 2nd A.L.H. Regt., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine. Enlisting in September, 1914, and sailing in February, 1915, as second-lieutenant in charge of reinforcements 6th A.L.H. Regt., served from May to September in Gallipoli, at Lone Pine and Suvla Bay, whence invalided to England. Rejoining regt. in 1916, was appointed 2nd Brigade Transport Officer, Egypt, 22nd July, 1917, and then for a short period was with a Brigade of 29th Division (British) near Nablus and later Staff Captain, 2nd A.L.H. Brigade, until demobilisation. Service included Gaza, Beersheba, Richon, Jerusalem, Jordan Valley, three assaults at Amman and the Egyptian Rising. Promoted lieutenant, 25th September, 1915; captain, 29th December, 1917. Awarded Order of the Nile. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
