M.C., B.A. : Lieutenant, King Edward's Horse, R.G.A. and R.A.F., B.E.F., France. Enlisting in November, 1913, in King Edward''s Horse (Special Reserve Cavalry) while at Trinity College, Cambridge, was mobilised at the outbreak of War and crossed to France with 'C' Squadron— Cavalry to 47th Division—20th April, 1915. Returning to England 18th October, was transferred as second-lieutenant to R.G.A. (Special Reserve). Crossing again with 42nd Anti-Aircraft Section Royal Artillery 7th June, 1916, was absorbed in 8th Section and then in Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery, being promoted lieutenant, 1st July, and on 31st August, 1917, seconded to R.F.C. in England. Crossing once more, 3rd November, joined 15th Squadron R.A.F. as observer, 1st April, 1918, remaining with it till wounded 2nd May in aeroplane crash near Amiens and evacuated to England 3rd June. Transferring back to R.G.A. in November, served till demobilisation. Awarded M.C. in 1917 and Mentioned in Despatches. Professor of Classics, Adelaide University. Early education at St. Ignatius' College. Later at St. John's.
