M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, 17th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Enlisting in March, 1915, and sailing as corporal 12th May, fought in Gallipoli from 19th August till the Evacuation. Crossing with battn. to France in April, 1916, served till wounded at Pozieres in July, and evacuated to hospital. On recovery posted to 5th Training Battn. 31st October, later returning to 17th Battn. and serving until demobilisation. Promoted second-lieutenant, November, 1915; lieutenant, 17th August, 1916; captain, 22nd June, 1917. Specially Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
