M.B., Ch.M., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., and B.E.F., France. Enlisting and sailing in April, 1917, was sent from London to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen. Early in 1918 was Consulting Physician, Fifth Army, remaining with it until demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant-colonel (acting colonel), 18th November, 1918. Physician in charge, Tuberculosis Department, Military Hospital, Randwick. Lecturer in Clinical Medicine, 1923-33. Hon. Consulting Physician, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Royal Hospital for Women. Early education at Bath College, England, and Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.

Dr. Fairfax identified himself closely with a number of philanthropic organisations including the Australian Aerial Medical Service, of which he was a vice-president of the New South Wales section; Dr. Barnardo's Homes, of which he was chairman of the New South Wales branch; the Bush Nursing Association, of which he was president; and the Boys' Brigade, of which he was a director.
