Arts I : Lieutenant, n th Battn., East Surrey Regiment, B.E.F., France; also 13th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli. Enlisting 24th August, 1914, in 1st A.L.H. Regt., and re-enlisting 24th September in battn., sailed as corporal and was at the Anzac Landing. Promoted acting sergeant 3rd May, 1915, and wounded on nth. Discharged 6th October to commission in East Surrey Regt., on 7th crossed to France, where wounded in September, 1916, but served until demobilisation, then returning to Australia. Early education at Newington College.
