D.S.O., Arts : Major, 19th and 46th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Enlisting 5th May, 1915, as captain and sailing 25th June as second in command of A Coy., landed at Anzac, 20th August, in command of D Coy., and remained there till invalided to England in October. Joining 46th Battn. on formation in Egypt 10th March, 1916, served at Fleurbaix (where promoted major), Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Ypres and elsewhere, being appointed second in command, 1st December. Evacuated to England in July 1917 after a shellburst, was later in charge of 12th Training Battn., Codford, and in September President of Courts Martial. Returning to France 13th February, 1918, was evacuated to England through an injury in April but, rejoining unit in July, served until demobilisation. Awarded D.S.O. 4th June, 1917, being personally invested by H.M. the King at Buckingham Palace 15th August. Mentioned in Despatches. Member of S.U. Scouts'' Guard of Honour to H.M. King George V (then Duke of York) in 1901, and lieutenant in 1909. Early education at All Saints'' College, Bathurst.
