M.C., M.B. : Major A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in December, 1915, and sailing in April, 1916, was for short periods at Nos. 1 and 2 Australian General Hospitals and became R.M.O. 19th Battn. 9th September, remaining with it till March, 1917, when transferred to 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot. Joining 13th Australian Field Ambulance in December, served with it till June, 1918, and with 12th A.F.Amb. until demobilisation. Promoted major, n th November, 1918. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at The King''s and Sydney Grammar Schools. * "He followed up with his bearers, picked up his guides, gained touch with the regimental aid posts, and organised a line of bearer relays. This was done at night under machine-gun and heavy shell fire."—London Gazette, 16th September, 1918.
