M.C., C. de G., M.B., Ch.M., D.L.O. (Lond.), F.R.A.C.S. : Captain, 2nd Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in May, 1915, and sailing in September as secondlieutenant in charge of 9th Reinforcements, joined battn. in Egypt, 6th January, 1916. Crossing to France in March as platoon commander was appointed Intelligence Officer 1st Infantry Brigade 20th April and attached to 1st Divisional H.Q. 1st November, becoming Assistant General Staff Officer. On 15th July, 1917, appointed Staff Captain, 2nd Infantry Brigade, in December G.S.O., 1st Anzac Corps and on 1st June G.S.O., Fifth Army, serving until the end of the War. Promoted second-lieutenant, 5th August, 1915; lieutenant, 21st April, 1916; captain, 16th April, 1917. Awarded M.C. 1st January and C. de G. 24th January, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. Early education at Fort St. High School.
