Enlisting in May, 1915, served as O.C. hospital ship Karoola from 14th July, 1915, to 29th May, 1916, in the Mediterranean and to Australia. Subsequently appointed Surgeon No. 4 Australian General Hospital, Randwick. University Medallist, John Harris Scholar and Wilkinson Prizeman. Early education at Edinburgh and Sydney Grammar School.

In the early 1920s Craig endowed a urological fellowship (at the time unique in Australia) at the University of Sydney and at departments of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children.
