C.B.E., M.C., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S., M.L.C. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, France and England. Sailing 14th July, 1915, on staff of hospital ship Karoola , transferred in December to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis. In January, 1916, joined 1st Australian Field Ambulance at Tel-el-Kebir and crossed with it to France. On 25th April became Gas Officer, H.Q. 1st Division, being responsible for the training and equipment of 1st Division in anti-gas measures, returning to Ambulance for the Battle of Pozieres. On 20th November was appointed A.D.M.S. Administrative H.Q., London, serving till invalided to Australia in December, 1917. Promoted major, 20th November, 1916. Awarded M.C. 1st January, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Newington College and The King''s School.

Dr Colvin had an outstanding career as medical specialist, medical administrator, soldier, parliamentarian and civic leader. He made an enormous contribution to the progress of Orange. Colvin was a patron and office bearer of many local and district organisations and sporting clubs including the Returned Services League, Rotary, Legacy, the Spastic Centre Council, Far West Children’s Health Scheme, Orange Agricultural and Pastoral Society, Fairbridge Farm Schools, Orange Tennis Club, Western Districts Racing Association, Orange Jockey Club, Also led the supply of electricity to Orange, the establishment of the Spring Creek water supply and the construction of the Orange Base Hospital..
