B.Sc. : Lieutenant, General List (Education Service), 63rd and 17th Battns., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 9th December, 1916, and sailing 10th February, 1917, as Sergeant 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery Reinforcements, was with 63rd Battn. from 27th April to 14th October. Then transferring to 17th, joined it at Ypres in November, was gassed at Armentieres in January, 1918, and evacuated to hospital. On recovery served at depots as Gas Instructor until 4th November and then with Education Service till May, 1919, returning 9th January, 1920. Promoted second-lieutenant, 4th November, 1918; lieutenant, 1st March, 1919. Levey Scholar and Smith Prizeman. Early education at All Saints' College, Bathurst, and Sydney High School.
