B.E. : Lieutenant, 2nd Pioneer Battn. and 5th Field Coy. Engineers, A.I.F., France. Enlisting 15th October, 1915, and sailing 16th July, 1916, joined 5th Field Coy. in France in October. Transferring to 2nd Pioneers in February, 1917, served till demobilisation. Under A.I.F. Education Scheme spent six months at Manchester School of Technology and then visited hydro-electric installations in France, Italy and Switzerland, returning in January, 1920. Promoted second-lieutenant, 16th May, 1916; lieutenant, 2nd May, 1917. Early education at Launceston Church Grammar School, Queen''s School, North Adelaide. Later at Toronto University.
