B.E. : Lieutenant, 1st Australian Tunnelling Coy., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 29th June, 1916, and sailing in October, reached France in December and served at Hill 60 until June, 1917, in Ypres-Passchendaele sector until March, 1918, and then on the Somme until the end of the War. Gassed at Hill 60 after an underground explosion on 25th April, 1917, and shell-shocked at Broodseinde, 6th October. Promoted second-lieutenant, 15th October, 1916; lieutenant, 21st April, 1917. Peter Nicol Russell Lecturer in Mining. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
