Econ. II : Sergeant, 55th and 34th Battns., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in April, 1916, and sailing in January, 1917, after passing N.C.O. and Officers Training Schools, attended O.T.S. Kandahar Barracks, England. Joining battn. at Bullecourt, fought through Ypres battles and Polygon Wood. Transferred to 34th Battn. 26th September, 1917, and then served at Hangard Wood, Villers-Bretonneux and elsewhere until demobilisation. Early education at Tenterden Public School.
