Accepted for service 10th April, 1916, after seven attempts, sailed as corporal 2nd May and, crossing to France with 3rd Division in November, served at Armentieres, Messines, Ypres, Villers- Brettoneux and Somme till death. Promoted sergeant, November, and later sergeant-major; second-lieutenant, 30th August, 1917, and lieutenant, 5th December. Killed in Action, Thailles Wood, near Bray, 20th August, 1918. Early education at St. Stanislaus'' College, Bathurst. Later at St. John''s.
