D.S.O., V.D., M.B. (Camb. & Syd.), Ch.B., B.A. (Camb.): Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 20th August, 1914, and sailing in October as R.M.O. 9th Battn., served in Egypt and Gallipoli until the Evacuation. On 24th February, 1916, was appointed D.A.D.M.S. Army Corps H.Q. and on 24th March, 1917, C.O. 3rd Australian Field Ambulance. From November, 1917, to July, 1918, was Collator, Medical Section, Australian War Records, and on 26th July appointed C.O. No. 3 Australian General Hospital, Abbeville, serving there until October, when he returned on Anzac Leave. Re-embarking in January, 1919, resumed command of No. 3 A.G.H. and was again employed on special duties in connection with War Records, returning in January, 1920. Promoted major, 5th October, 1915; lieutenant-colonel, 20th November, 1916; colonel, 11th November, 1918. Awarded D.S.O. for services at the Landing at Gallipoli and Mentioned in Despatches three times. Editor of Official History of Australian Army Medical Services in the War of 1914-18 . Early education at Ipswich Grammar School.
