O.B.E., M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 1st March, 1916, and sailing in July, was with 7th Australian Field Ambulance in France from November, 1916, to October, 1918, except when Acting D.A.D.M.S., Australian Corps H.Q. in March and April, 1918, and when wounded at Bullecourt 3rd May, 1917. Promoted major and D.A.D.M.S. to A.I.F. Depots in United Kingdom, Tidworth, 24th October, 1918, serving there until demobilisation. Awarded O.B.E. in 1920 and M.C.* in 1918 and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew''s College. * For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of the forward line of evacuation for eight hours after his commanding officer was wounded. His reconnoitring of ambulance posts and regimental aid posts through the area of shell fire was of great assistance in controlling the evacuation. He supervised the loading of wounded into horse ambulances and organised the line of bearers and prisoners and it was due to his action that great congestion was prevented.—London Gazette, 5th April, 1918.
